California Halibut Print

California Halibut, Paralichthys californicus

Also called the California Flounder, the CA Halibut is a wonderful table fish found on the West Coast. Believe it or not they start out in life swimming upright like a normal fish, eyes on either side of their head. In the juvenile stage the eye migrates all the way around to the other side of the head and they change to swimming flat on the ocean floor!  Featured in the book Catalina Island Dive Buddies by Mike Rivkin and Jon Council, illustrated by Nick Mayer.
