The Hooded Butterflyfish, Chaetodon larvatus is a rare and beautiful reef fish of the Red Sea. This has got to be one of the least known species I've ever painted. I was completely blown away by the coloration & patterns on this creature--who could have dreamed up a combination like this? Powder blue body fading to white with these angled yellow bars, the bright orange face, the jet black tail. So crazy!
It was such a blast painting this fish. This was a private commission for the director of a Natural History Museum. He searched for the rarest & most difficult fish to challenge me with! So the original has sold, but prints are available. If you are interested in discussing a commissioned piece of your own, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can learn more about commissions here.
