Sulawesi Harlequin Shrimp, Caridina woltereckae


This amazingly colored shrimp is found in just one pond on one island on the entire planet! The Harlequin Shrimp is endemic to Lake Towuti on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. Towuti is one of the bodies of water called "Wallace's Dream Ponds" because these ancient lakes are home to thousands of species that are found nowhere else in the world. Alfred Wallace studied them like Darwin studied the Galapagos. This precious creature is listed as critically endangered because it is not only found in just one pond, but is also being collected and sold to the aquarium trade. I created this painting in partnership with Shoal Conservation to help their Wallace's Dream Ponds Project.

Printed on high quality, artist grade stock and folded around a lightweight frame to give them a gorgeous, gallery ready appearance. With acid free ink that will last without fading or chipping, Features a scratch-resistant UV coating. Wipes clean easily with a damp cloth or to remove dust, vacuum gently using a soft brush attachment.
